The 1ST Annual Tyler County Hay Show was held on October 27, 2015 at 6pm. This was a new event for Tyler County and was a resounding success. There were 26 entries into the hay show. This event was a joint effort between the Tyler County Soil and Water Conservation District and Tyler County AgriLife Extension. Area feed stores volunteered as drop off locations earlier in the season so the hay could be sent to Stephen F. Austin State University Soil and Forage Testing Lab for analysis prior to judging. Dr. Vanessa Corriher-Olson, a forage program specialist with AgriLife Extension based out of Overton, came down to judge the hay show and provide all those in attendance with an informative presentation on hay quality. Following the meal and Dr. Corriher-Olson’s presentation, the results were presented by
Tyler County Extension Agent Jacob Spivey. After the results, Josh Johanson, Tyler County NRCS representative explained to those in attendance the function of a Soil and Water Conservation District and explain its not-for-profit status. The top ten placing hay entries were sold to benefit the Soil and Water Conservation District. The placings and sale prices are as follows :
